How to Draw a Body Pillow
Today I'chiliad going to talk about my feel making my ain dakimakura.

For some reference, I'k not a super amazing artist, though I'm sure that statement will definitely piss off a agglomeration of people. The thing is, as an artist, you lot're e'er going to inevitably detest your art so having your own printed out on a body pillow is but a high risk type of deal. I didn't give much idea to it because I was likewise high and airheaded by the idea of MY OWN PERSONAL DAKIMAKURA OF MY FAV CHARACTERS YEAH!! But every bit time went on after I ordered it, I began to wonder if I was going to regret it.
Well, information technology'due south been well-nigh a year since the dakimakura came into my possession, and I'thousand just glad to say that I still think my art looks practiced and I'm very glad I don't absolutely despite it like some other pieces I've made in the by.
To start, I dearest the Vocaloids SF-A2 Miki and Kiyoteru Hiyama. A lot. I really adore them a ton. Images of them beneath for reference.
One January dark around 3AM, I got the bright idea to showtime drawing a dakimakura equally a joke.
Now, I'm none too good at drawing full bodies and stuff and I decided it might exist a skillful challenge. I hateful, no one else was gonna ever make a dakimakura of these lesser known characters so it was up to me to do it if I wanted to have a stupid body pillow with them.
Hither are some pictures of my sketching and cartoon procedure, which is none too glamorous simply here information technology is. My initial sketch, I did start line arting Miki a bit.
Line arting the top function of the bodies. I suck at cartoon legs and I kind of ended upwards avoiding drawing those for equally long equally possible haha.
Colored in the flats, I did add a notebook for actress sensual™
And finally, afterward the art was (mostly) done, I shoved the images into a custom printing service just to see how it would await and I sort of ended upward regretting my decision a fleck here haha
Of grade, I did add shading and sheet wrinkles and some extra fancy schmancy art magic to jazz information technology up a chip before submitting the club.
And finally, later ordering it, I received it former tardily February. I didn't actually have a pillow for the comprehend, and didn't stop up getting one until one-half a yr later which made me wonder why I thought it was a expert idea ownership it pffft.

If anyone is interested in making their own dakimakura, I'll talk a bit about how I got information technology done.
So basically there's a site chosen ArtsCow (I do recommend it, it'south a nice site and I have ordered other custom items from the site later on making my dakimakura) and they offered a custom printed "body pillow." Of class, someone on tumblr found information technology and people started en masse making their dakimakuras and now on the ArtsCow website it's even listed as a dakimakura.

The basic gist here is that yous accept the ideal image size (in pixels [W * H] :6000x2100 or College) and make sure it has a decent enough resolution (at least 300dpi for god's sake). When I started cartoon my dakimakuras, it was actually as a joke and so my own dakimakuras were non the ideal image size. Ordering and ownership information technology was actually an afterthought believe it or not.
It's sort of weird having a dakimakura, because it'due south just a huge blood-red flag of "you're a huge weeaboo and everyone is going to guess y'all harshly" and I know I am judged VERY Difficult for owning this simply I still like having information technology on my bed even if I don't actually hug it that often.
Ane might say it'due south kind of narcissistic to accept a torso pillow of your own art, but something about it notwithstanding makes me happy especially since even at present a year later on I drew it I'1000 still very proud of it!
